Job Description
About the Role
The Two-Spirt Focused Wellness Advocate provides trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and relationship-based support to Two-Spirit community members experiencing houselessness, instability, and barriers to accessing services. The role focuses on advocacy, wellness support, system navigation, and harm reduction through community-based engagement and scheduled support sessions.
Working collaboratively alongside the full-time Wellness Advocate, this role supports individuals in accessing housing, healthcare, identification, income supports, and community resources while promoting self-determination, dignity, and connection.
The ideal candidate will have a deep commitment to intersectional justice, community empowerment, Indigenous harm reduction principles, and disrupting systemic oppression.
Key Responsibilities
- Support Two-Spirit community members in navigating housing, healthcare, identification, and income support systems
- Provide trauma-informed emotional support and wellness check-ins
- Support safer substance use practices through Indigenous harm reduction approaches
- Connect individuals to culturally relevant community resources and partner organizations
- Maintain collaborative relationships with service providers and community partners
- Complete documentation and activity tracking related to support provided
- Participate in team meetings, collaboration, and program planning
Qualifications & Skills
- Experience working with Indigenous and 2S/LGBTQI+ communities
- Knowledge of trauma-informed care, Indigenous harm reduction, and anti-oppressive practice
- Experience supporting individuals experiencing houselessness, instability, or complex barriers
- Strong communication, advocacy, relationship-building, and systems navigation skills
- Experience navigating crisis situations and using de-escalation techniques
- Knowledge of community, housing, and social service systems in Edmonton
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in dynamic environments
Assets Include:
- Lived experience relevant to the communities served
- Experience working with newcomer or Indigenous communities
- Crisis intervention, suicide prevention, or de-escalation training
- Knowledge of culturally relevant community supports and resources
Working Conditions
- 75 hours per week
- Community-based work at partner locations, public community spaces, and Pride Centre programming locations
- Work hours will include some evenings and weekends, as program needs dictate
- Exposure to crisis situations and emotionally demanding environments
