About the Role

The ideal candidate values diversity, community, authenticity, and is a strong advocate for the safety and wellbeing of 2S/LGBTQI+ youth. They are committed to creating accessible, inclusive online spaces that promote harm reduction and foster safe community connection for young people.

This role focuses on maintaining and moderating the Pride Centre’s Discord Server while supporting ethical, healing-centred online engagement practices. The successful candidate must have prior experience operating and managing a Discord server, engaging respectfully with youth, and training moderators and volunteers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Run and moderate the Pride Centre Discord Server during scheduled programming hours
  • Onboard and support youth participants, moderators, and volunteers
  • Maintain server functionality, permissions, roles, and safety systems
  • Monitor and maintain Discord bots, including server moderation tools
  • Ensure the online environment remains safe, ethical, inclusive, and healing-centred
  • Maintain accurate records and statistical tracking for program evaluation
  • Support volunteer training and ongoing moderation practices
  • Stay current on online safety trends, AI/deepfake risks, and digital harm reduction practices
  • Adhere to organizational policies, procedures, and standards of practice
  • Edit and update Standards of Practice (SOPs) as required

Qualifications & Skills

  • Experience working with 2S/LGBTQI+ communities through a decolonial lens
  • Strong understanding of trauma-informed and healing-centred engagement
  • Experience working with neurodiverse individuals and youth with diverse support needs
  • Strong understanding and application of intersectionality
  • Experience in Child & Youth Care, Social Work, or related human services fields
  • Supervisory and/or leadership experience
  • Crisis intervention, suicide intervention, harm reduction, and de-escalation skills
  • Experience creating, maintaining, and moderating public Discord servers
  • Strong technological proficiency and knowledge of Discord moderation bots
  • Knowledge of ethical online community management and youth engagement practices
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively

  • Coding experience
  • Basic HTML knowledge
  • Knowledge of local community resources
  • Strong communication, multitasking, and problem-solving skills

Working Conditions

  • 12–15 hours per week, with some evening work required
  • Hybrid work environment between remote work and in-person programming
  • A current and clear Vulnerable Sector Check and Child Intervention Check are mandatory
  • A three-month probationary period applies
  • Regular exposure to sensitive and trauma-related content
