Centre for Family Literacy

The Centre for Family Literacy (formerly the Prospects Literacy Association) began to offer family literacy programs in 1993. The Rhymes That Bind program is delivered over a minimum of 10 weeks in partnership with agencies that work with families in the community, like the Pride Centre of Edmonton. Singing, rhyming and oral language use are modeled and discussed in a relaxed, fun and supportive environment. Each family receives a booklet of the songs and rhymes they have learned at the end of the session. The program encourages families that may be facing barriers, like low income, literacy issues, isolation, or lack of resources, to come together and spend time with other families in similar circumstances.
